How to Try to Fix a Stuck Pixel
A stuck pixel is powered but frozen on one colour; a dead pixel receives no power and stays black. Only the first can sometimes be revived, which is why identifying which you have comes before any attempt at a fix.
Identify what you actually have
View the affected spot on a full white field and then on a full black one. A dot visible on both is dead: no power is reaching it, and nothing you do in software will change that. A dot visible on only one — typically a coloured dot against black, or a dark dot against a colour — is stuck, and stuck pixels sometimes recover.
It is worth ruling out dirt first. A speck on the glass looks remarkably like a dark pixel. Wipe gently with a microfibre cloth; if the mark moves or disappears, that is all it was.
Why colour cycling sometimes works
A stuck subpixel is one that is receiving power but has settled into a state it is not switching out of. Rapidly cycling colours forces repeated switching across the full range, and that exercise can shake the subpixel back into normal operation. It is closer to working a seized mechanism loose than to a repair.
This also explains why it fails on dead pixels. If no power reaches the pixel, there is nothing to exercise. Any product or page claiming to revive dead pixels is either misusing the term or overselling.
Running it properly
Position the repair area over the affected pixel rather than flashing the whole screen. A small box concentrates the effect where it is needed and exposes far less of your display — and far less of your eyes — to rapid flashing.
Run for ten to twenty minutes, then stop and check against a solid colour. If nothing has changed, one more run of similar length is reasonable. Beyond two or three attempts, the odds are poor.
Be more cautious on OLED. OLED subpixels age with use, so prefer short runs and a small area rather than leaving a full-screen pattern going for hours.
If it does not work
A stuck pixel that resists several attempts is likely to stay. At that point the question becomes commercial rather than technical: check your manufacturer's pixel policy, because bright stuck pixels usually qualify for replacement at lower counts than dark dead ones.
If the display is new, the retailer's return window is almost always an easier route than a warranty claim, and it does not require the panel to exceed a defect threshold. Test early for exactly this reason.
