About Test Your Device

Test Your Device was built by Jayadeep, a web developer with experience in browser APIs and hardware diagnostics. The idea came from a simple frustration: every existing tool for testing a microphone, webcam, or keyboard either required a download, demanded an account, showed so many ads it was barely usable, or quietly sent your audio and video to a server somewhere. None of that should be necessary to answer the question "is my mic actually working?"

So Jayadeep built something different — a set of clean, fast, browser-based tools that run entirely on your device and give you a clear answer in under a minute.

What Makes This Site Different

Private by design

When you use the microphone test, your audio is processed by your own browser using the Web Audio API. It never leaves your device. The same applies to the webcam test, the speaker test, and every other tool that touches your hardware. There is no server receiving your data because none of it is sent anywhere.

No download. No account.

You open a page and the tool works. There's nothing to install, no email address to hand over, and no profile to create. Every test is available immediately.

Clear fixes, not just results

A test that tells you something is broken isn't very helpful if it doesn't explain what to do next. Every tool on this site includes specific troubleshooting steps for the most common problems, so you can act on what you find rather than searching elsewhere.

Fast and clean

The tools load quickly and get out of the way. There are ads on the site to keep it free, but they are placed in the content area and kept away from the test controls so they never interfere with testing.

Troubleshooting guides included

Alongside the tools, there's a growing library of step-by-step guides for common device problems — from a microphone that nobody can hear on Zoom to a controller with stick drift. Each guide links back to the relevant tool so you can confirm a fix worked.

How It's Funded

The site is completely free to use. It's supported by advertising through Google AdSense. Ads appear on tool pages and guide pages, but they are placed away from the test controls so they never get in the way of what you're trying to do.

There are no paid plans, no premium features, and nothing locked behind a paywall.
