No controller — press a button to connect
Left stick · 0.00, 0.00
Right stick · 0.00, 0.00

Leave the sticks untouched — if a value moves away from 0.00 on its own, that is stick drift.

How to use the gamepad tester

  1. Plug in your controller with USB, or pair it over Bluetooth.
  2. Press any button — the browser only exposes a gamepad after it receives its first input. The status will switch to Controller connected and show the device name.
  3. Work through every face button, bumper, trigger and D-pad direction. Each box lights green while held.
  4. Push both analog sticks to the edges and rotate them. The dots should reach the ring cleanly with no dead spots.
  5. Let go of the sticks and read the live X/Y values. They should settle at 0.00.

Which controllers work

This tester uses the browser Gamepad API, so it reads any controller your operating system already recognises: Xbox Series, Xbox One and Xbox 360 pads, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock 4, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Joy-Cons, plus the vast majority of third-party and retro USB pads. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera all support it; Safari support is partial, so use a Chromium browser for the most reliable results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won't my controller connect to the gamepad tester?

Press a button first. The browser Gamepad API stays silent until the controller sends its first input, so a freshly plugged-in pad shows as disconnected until you press something. If it still fails, try a different USB cable or port, and use Chrome, Edge or Firefox rather than Safari.

Does the gamepad tester work over Bluetooth?

Yes. Pair the controller with your operating system first, then press a button on this page. Wired USB is slightly more reliable for testing because it avoids Bluetooth latency, but both work.

Is my controller data sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser using the Gamepad API. No inputs, device names or recordings leave your machine.

What controllers are supported?

Xbox Series, One and 360 pads, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock 4, Switch Pro Controller and Joy-Cons, and most third-party USB or Bluetooth gamepads that your OS recognises.

How do I test for stick drift here?

Let go of both analog sticks and watch the X/Y values. If they move away from 0.00 on their own, that is drift. For a graded severity reading, use the dedicated stick drift test.

Why do the triggers show as buttons?

Analog triggers report both a pressed state and a 0-to-1 value. In this view they light up like buttons once pressed past about 10%. To see the exact analog range, watch the stick and axis values or use the controller test page.
