Mic Not Working on Discord? How to Fix It
Quick answer: On Discord, a silent mic is usually the wrong input device, an input-sensitivity slider set too high, or push-to-talk being on. Pick your mic in Voice settings, adjust the sensitivity, and check your input mode.
Confirm the mic works at all: open the microphone test and speak.
Fix it inside Discord
Open Settings, then Voice and Video. Set Input Device to your actual microphone, and under Input Sensitivity toggle automatic off and speak to see the bar move. Check Input Mode — if Push to Talk is on, you must hold the key. If all else fails, scroll down and use Reset Voice Settings.
Check Windows permission and device
Make sure Discord is allowed under Settings, Privacy and security, Microphone, and that your mic is the default input in Windows sound settings.
Disable exclusive mode
If another program grabbed the mic, Discord gets nothing. In the classic Recording properties, on the Advanced tab, untick the exclusive-mode options, then restart Discord. For deeper system issues see our guide on a microphone not working on Windows 11.
Confirm it works
Use Discord's own mic test in Voice and Video, or re-run the microphone test, then rejoin a voice channel.
