How the FPS test works
The test asks the browser to draw a frame as often as possible and counts those frames each second. Because browsers sync to your display, your FPS is naturally limited by your monitor's refresh rate — so 60Hz screens top out near 60 FPS, and 144Hz screens near 144.
Tips for an accurate reading
- Close other tabs and background apps that compete for the CPU/GPU.
- Let it run 10+ seconds and watch the minimum — big dips reveal stutter.
- If the moving boxes look jerky, the browser isn't sustaining full frame rate.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my FPS capped at 60?
Your monitor is likely 60Hz, or set to 60Hz in your display settings. Raise it there to see higher FPS.
Is this the same as a game FPS counter?
It measures your browser's frame rate, which reflects your display and system smoothness — not a specific game's engine.
